Activities in and around Plettenberg Bay

Plettenberg Bay, known to the locals as Plett, is one of the most popular holiday destinations in South Africa with its pristine beaches, rocky headlands, rivers, golf courses and polo fields. Known for its wonderful temperate climate and many days of sunshine every year, it's a sophisticated holiday town with excellent restaurants and beautiful shops and boutiques. It offers holiday-makers the opportunity to enjoy a host of outdoor activities, or just to relax and enjoy the exquisite surrounds.

Outdoor adventure

The sea and rivers provide fantastic swimming, sailing, surfing, fishing, canoeing and scuba diving, while hikers are well provided for. The Signal Hill Nature Trail winds through the Piesang Valley to the beach, and Robberg Nature Reserve, with its spectacular panoramic vistas and pristine beach offers a choice of three circular routes of increasing difficulty and distance. Walkers who prefer shorter distances can visit the Big Tree in the Tsitsikamma Forest or enjoy a stroll along the Garden of Eden forest boardwalk.

If you're a cyclist, there is no better place in the world for challenging mountain bike trails. At Harkerville, four distinct routes have been laid out through indigenous forest, plantation and coastal fynbos and colour-coded according to degree of difficulty and distance.

The famous and sought after Pansy shell can sometimes be found on the Plett beaches, and whales and dolphins frequently visit Plett. They are best viewed from the Robberg Nature Reserve, which also has its own seal colony.

Plett is a golfer's paradise, with two of its own superb courses - Goose Valley and Plettenberg Bay Country Club - and numerous others within a short driving distance.

Many local tour companies provide excursions to adrenaline activities in the area, including the highest commercial bungy jump in the world off the Bloukrans Bridge at Storms River, zipline canopy tours, sky diving, abseiling and black water tubing. Kids will enjoy the supertube at Adventure Land.

Wildlife

Plett provides many opportunities for viewing wildlife.
